From Zero to Four Platforms: Building a Multi-Product Tech Company in Myanmar

In the early days, Joyoma was a single-product startup focused entirely on launching YangonPOS. Today, we operate four major platforms (YangonPOS, MyoThit, Zay Myanmar, Work Myanmar) with a fifth (ride-sharing) in development. This evolution from a startup to a multi-product tech company wasn't accidental—it was guided by core leadership principles.

1. The "Adjacent Need" Strategy:
We don't chase random ideas. Each new platform addresses an adjacent, fundamental need within the same ecosystem we already understand. After building YangonPOS for retailers, we saw merchants struggling to find commercial space—leading to MyoThit. Those same merchants needed a broader online sales channel—prompting Zay Myanmar. As these businesses grew, their number one challenge became hiring talent—so we built Work Myanmar. This creates natural synergies and cross-promotion opportunities.

2. The Independent Squad Model:
Each platform operates as an independent "product squad" with its own Product Manager, Lead Engineer, and Designer. They have full ownership and accountability for their platform's roadmap, KPIs, and user satisfaction. This autonomy fosters innovation and speed. However, these squads aren't siloed. They share a central pool of expertise in backend infrastructure, data engineering, and DevOps managed by our Core Tech team, ensuring we don't reinvent the wheel and maintain security standards.

3. The 70/20/10 Resource Rule:
We allocate our resources deliberately: 70% to strengthening and growing our existing four platforms, 20% to building the new ride-sharing platform, and 10% to pure R&D and exploration of future concepts. This ensures our core products remain best-in-class while still innovating for the future.

4. Leadership as Context-Setters, not Micro-managers:
Our role as leaders is to set the strategic context ("We will build essential digital infrastructure") and empower the squads with the resources and trust to execute. We hold weekly syncs where squads share challenges and breakthroughs, creating a culture of collaborative problem-solving rather than top-down instruction.

Building a multi-product company in a fast-growing market is a marathon, not a sprint. Our focus remains on depth over breadth, ensuring each platform we launch doesn't just exist, but becomes an indispensable part of Myanmar's daily digital life.
